Is your company importing or exporting goods? Then you have to prepare customs documents. Are you handling your custom affairs in-house or have you outsourced these to a customs broker? Either way, when importing or exporting goods, you are dealing with the Customs authorities.
In both cases it is worth considering to ask us to carry out the SILS Customs Scan. By means of this audit we judge whether you are handling all your customs affairs in a tax and legal correct manner and we identify possible risks. Should our scan indeed ascertain points of improvement, we advise you how to implement these through internal process improvement.
We visit you on location to analyse all procedures that have to do with importing and exporting within your company. We will check your customs licences, review all accompanying documents and of course the kind of goods you import or export. Within the scope of the SILS Customs Scan we will also analyse the way you apply the VAT rules and conduct a proper administration and the correct application of the Incoterms. These are the delivery terms agreed between the seller and the buyer. Of course, your forwarder’s identification and control are also covered by our scan. At last, we can zoom in on risky goods that may fall under the “dual use regulation”. These are goods, software and technology that are commonly used for civilian purposes, but may have military applications, or may contribute to the production or distribution of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
All data collected during the scan will be analysed critically by us and subsequently leads to a process description of your current methods. Thereafter we review the contents of your specific statements to determine if you are at risk due to filing incorrect or incomplete returns. For this purpose we do not only look at the goods codes, but also the customs values and the accuracy of certificates of origin. Based on this risk analysis we prepare for you a clear and easy to understand strategic advice in order to optimize your processes and procedures in relation to your customs activities.
You will receive a quotation in advance, based on the time we think we need. On average, it concerns one day on site and then half a day or a full day to process the data and drafting the advice. But this relatively low investment required by the SILS Customs Scan is always lesser than the costs you can avoid due to process and procedural errors such as unexpected levies or penalties.
The risks that we point out to you on the basis of the SILS Customs Scan are not necessarily of a financial or fiscal nature. Our advice can also help you to set up your customs activities more efficiently. The scan may also provide for the determination of the operating situation in relation to the conditions imposed on an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO). Finally, we can also come to the conclusion that there is a lack of knowledge at some crucial positions within your company which can lead to our advice to train your employees. Also this is something we could take care of.
